Patong is undeniably the most famous of all the beach resorts in Phuket. Visitor will find a huge choice of activities and nightlife, making Patong an ideal place to party and play. After dark the area has a raucous and often wild nightlife, including hundreds of restaurants, beer bars, Go Go Bars and of course packed night clubs. The night time action is centred around Soi Bangla (Bangla Road) and the Beach Road heading South from Bang La. Visitors looking for a taste of traditional Thailand may not find it here, though the steaming hot streets, neon lights and chaotic atmosphere of Patong are certainly overwhelming for the new arrival.

Actual Patong Beach is 3 – 4 kilometers long stretch of golden sand, though often quite crowded in the middle section. Parking can be impossible so if you are coming with your own transport then best to park in the Jungceylon shopping center and walk to the beach. The northern end of the beach, close to the Novotel Phuket, is in my opinion nicer and far less crowded. Definitely less people, easier to find parking, plenty of local food vendors, and the water seems to be clearer up that end.
The southern end of Patong Beach has a quaint, old-fashioned fishermen village that’s worth a photo and is in stark contrast to the rest of Patong. Anywhere along the beach you can rent an umbrella for 200 baht but beach chairs have disappeared for the time being.
